ICUMSA Sugar Grades: A Buyer’s Guide to Clear RFQs
How to structure a sugar enquiry around ICUMSA range, packing, volume, destination and commercial terms.
International sugar enquiries become easier to evaluate when the buyer specifies the requested ICUMSA range, crystal or product type, packing, volume and destination.
Why the grade matters
ICUMSA values are commonly used as part of sugar quality descriptions, but a complete commercial specification may also address moisture, polarization, ash, grain size and other parameters.
Include the logistics requirement
State the destination port or country, preferred Incoterm, target shipment window and packaging format. This allows the supplier to evaluate the correct route and loading configuration.
Ask for the document set
Requirements differ by destination. Confirm the need for certificate of origin, quality or analysis documents, phytosanitary documentation where applicable, and any destination-specific registration or inspection.
